It’s been ten months, moviegoers have been gifted with a number of great blockbusters. There are numerous great movies to come in the months ahead, these are our current picks for the best movies of 2017 with reasons why you should watch them.
Split is about three teenage girls that are abducted by a man who is diagnosed with dissociative identity disorder and has 24 distinct personalities. McAvoy’s performance here is nothing short of extraordinary.
9. The Lego Batman Movie
A cooler-than-ever Bruce Wayne must deal with the usual suspects as they plan to rule Gotham City. There is certainly enough fun, substance and gorgeous visuals in the film to mean it’s more than just a platter to serve up merchandise.
8. Get out
It’s time for a young African American to meet with his white girlfriend’s parents for a weekend in their secluded estate in the woods, but before long, the friendly and polite ambience will give way to a nightmare. This is a great horror satire film.
7. John Wick Chapter: 2
John Wick Chapter 1 was one of the top 10 that year so does John Wick Chapter 2 is now. The fight scenes are so fluid & brutal there wasn’t a ton of shaky camera, you can see and feel every punch even when John is fighting with multiple characters at the same time. On top of that, the story and everything that they constructed around this is just genuinely good.
If you like great action with a great story this is the one for you.
6. Baby Driver
Baby driver is about a young kid named Baby who’s forced to work for crime boss played by Kevin Spacey. He’s a brilliant getaway driver who wants out of this line of work once his debt is paid off but Spacey doesn’t let him go. The movie is outstanding the acting, the directing, the music, the action, the cast, everything.
5. Wonder Woman
DC movies have been panned hard, not one time not two but three. Three in a row spells possible disaster and hopes were already low for Wonder Woman. But Wonder Woman has explored the boom and made a comeback possible for DCU. Wonder Women totally surpassed the “gorgeous Amazon kicks ass” flick it could have merely been. Chris Pine and Gal Gadot exude such a beautiful chemistry. A must watch of 2017.
4. War for the Planet of the Apes
War for the Planet of the Apes has been my personal favourite. The only thing I did not like was that the trailer of this movie made our expectation very high in terms of action. And many were disappointed but this isn’t the movie packed with action but with emotions. People misunderstood the title War for the Planet of the Apes. They were expecting hardcore war movie. And it is that, but not much on the outside but inside; how a person has a war within themselves when war is happening around them. This was the perfect conclusion to the Planet of The Apes trilogy. One of the best summer movie of this year, a masterpiece.
3. Spider-Man Homecoming
There is nothing you would not love about this movie. It’s hands down one of the best Spider-Man movies, yes as good as the original 1st and 2nd. The movie has really done a great job in developing the Spider-Man character like never before. Spider-Man who is not good as Spiderman yet, learning how to be a hero throughout the movie. This is probably the most accurate comic Spiderman movie ever. And this definitely gets to place in top 3 Marvel movies ever.
It has been 17 years since the first X-Men movie with Hugh Jackman as Logan, and in middle age, he’s still muscled-up. He has played the same superhero longer than any other actor has played a superhero, appearing in nine movies as Wolverine. Logan is the perfect way to end the Hugh Jackman’s almost two-decade long run playing the character.
This movie had some of the best fight scenes out of any X-men movies ever and they are really gory and violent.
Jackman’s character is more brutal than ever as he struggles with his mortality, but the highlight is the relationship with his equally primal little-girl counterpart (Dafne Keen). A must watch.
Dunkirk directed by Christopher Nolan. It tells the story of the evacuation of 400,000 men in the middle of World War Two, who had every second are in danger of being eliminated by the Germans and it’s about how these men got off of those shores. The civilians that got in their own personal boats to travel there to help them and the stories of these men trying to do everything they possibly can to survive.
Dunkirk was a magnificent spectacle as it utilizes real boats real planes real locations to immerse you in this moment to make you feel so completely taken over by it. Everything on the screen looks authentic. There isn’t a moment that feels wasted, there’s never a scene that feels misplaced. This is the most simplistic yet highly realistic movie of the year.
We will keep updating our list for the year-end. Stay Tuned.
