Best Time Travel Movie | Groundhog Day
Groundhog Day is a 1993 American fantasy comedy and one of the Best Time Travel Movie Directed by Harold Ramis and written by Ramis and Danny Rubin.
Groundhog Day is one of the Best Time Travel Movie to come out in the early ’90s. Whether you like it or not, it will make you understand the best way to live an ideal life. The movie is about Phil a TV weather reporter who had been trapped in a time loop.
Groundhog Day Explanation
Groundhog is an animal that went into the tunnel during winters. People of Punxsutawney believe, if the day is sunny on the 2nd of February and Groundhog emerges from its burrow and sees its own shadow, it is said to predict six more weeks of winter.
On the other hand, if the day is cloudy and the animal’s shadow can’t be seen, it is taken to be a sign of milder weather in the following weeks, indicating an early spring season.
Groundhog Day Story Begins
On February 1st, Phil along with his cameraman Larry and producer Rita travels to Punxsutawney for his annual coverage of the Groundhog Day festival, which is going to held on the 2nd of February.
This is the 4th time he will be going to report Groundhog Day. Phil is not interested to go and report. He said it’s a waste of time and there is nothing new.
Once they reached Punxsutawney, Phil refuses to stay in the same hotel since he had been staying in the hotel for the last four times. So Rita booked a different & a better hotel for him, Phil went to his hotel and went to sleep.
The next day is Groundhog Day, he awakens at 06:00 hrs “I Got You Babe” playing on the radio. He gives a half-hearted performance reporting on the Groundhog Punxsutawney Phil and the festivities.
Despite Phil’s prediction, the blizzard strikes the area, preventing all travel out of the town. Phil unwillingly forced to spend the night in Punxsutawney.
The next morning, Phil wakes up again at the same time with the same song playing on the radio. Phil experiences the previous day’s events repeating exactly. He again unsuccessfully attempts to leave the town and retires to bed.
When he awakes “I Got You Babe” playing on the radio. It is again the 2nd of February and he realizes that he is trapped in a time loop that no one else is aware of. He confides his situation to Rita, who directs him to a neurologist who in turn directs him to a psychologist; neither can explain his experiences.
The same night, Phil gets drunk with locals. And managed to get arrested & imprisoned during a police chase sequence. The next morning he awakens in the hotel room and realizes that there are no consequences for his actions.
He begins spending loops indulging in binge eating, one-night stands, robbery, and other awful activities, using his increasing knowledge of the repeated events.
Phil eventually focuses on seducing Rita, using the loops to learn more about her so that he can try to sleep with her.
Phil gradually becomes depressed and desperate for a way to escape the Time loop. He commits suicide in a variety of ways but each time he awakens on 2nd February to “I Got You, Babe”.
He tries to explain his situation to Rita. She encourages him to think of the time loops as a blessing instead of a curse. Lying on the bed together that beautiful night, Phil realizes that he loves Rita. The next morning the same alarm buzz “I Got You, Babe”.
Phil wakes alone and saw it’s again February 2. Now he decides to use his knowledge of the time loops to change himself by helping others. He saves people from misfortunes and learns to play the piano, sculpt ice, and speak french.
During the loop, Phil reports on the Groundhog Day festivities with such eloquence. Phil continues his day helping Punxsutawney. That night Rita witnesses a new Phil, who plays the piano like a professional and can speak french and stories of his good deeds.
Rita was impressed with Phil’s apparent overnight transformation. Phil carves an ice sculpture of Rita and said whatever happens in the future, even if he doomed to continue awaking alone each morning he loves her.
Phil wakes the next morning with the same alarm buzz “I Got You, Babe”. And finds date changed to 3rd February and Rita is still in bed with him. Phil tells Rita that he wants to live in Punxsutawney with her.
- Everything is happening for a reason, instead of taking things as a curse think beyond and challenge yourself to convert it to blessing.
